This will be a thread for the install I'm doing in my CTS-V. Most equipment is here and I've started a few things.

Equipment:
Alpine CDA-9886
Metra double-din dash kit
Wet Sounds WS-420 pre-amp/line-driver/eq
Digital Designs 6.5" component set (kicks and pillars)
Digital Designs 6.5" coaxials (front and rear doors for fill only)
Digital Designs M3B 1500W mono amp
Digital Designs C4A 100x4 amp
Digital Designs 1508 8" woofers (2)
Stinger 1/0 power wire, ANL fuseholder up front
Stinger Helix RCA's
Stinger 5F digital hybrid capacitor

Tonight I finished covering the pillar panels. There was originally a Blose tweeter in each one. I removed those, cut them out, and fiberglassed a ring in for the tweeter. Each panel was glassed, sanded down, then wrapped in suede.

Next will be forming up the kick panels to hold the 6.5's. The trick is that the e-brake is like a truck and sits below the dash, not to mention there's a clutch pedal, so that's gonna take some trickery. Probably start on those next week.

Finally got some more work done. The pillars have been tucked in my closet since done, so now I started on the kick panels. The floormats in the car are tan, and I'm slowly swapping everything over to black as I can afford to. I've got new black OEM V floormats coming, so it'll look a little different once the work is done.

Started making the form

Resin and fiberglass mat

Raw forms ready for sanding and to be trimmed down

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8134.jpg
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8135.jpg

Cut out some speaker rings, sanded flush, and mounted the plastic ring

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8141.jpg
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8142.jpg

Wrapped the ring in foamboard so the speaker is recessed

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8143.jpg

Mounted the ring to the form and about to wrap in grill cloth

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8145.jpg

I missed a few pics inbetween, but basically wrapped in grill cloth, 2 coats of resin, then sanded down and covered in suede to match the pillars and seat inserts

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8155.jpg

Mounted in drivers side, again, black carpet and floormats coming soon.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8157.jpg

Both completed on the bench

A new toy that helped this job in a big way

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8152.jpg

And another goody added along with a UUC short shifter. The old shift knob wouldn't stay straight because it was broken, and the bushings were destroyed on the original shifter.

Also started on mounting up the pre-amp. This dash kit sucks for using a single-din head unit. It's almost like something is missing. There's a gap between both trim rings that will have to be filled. I filled the gap between the top and bottom of the eq, but can't start on the middle between the head unit until it comes in and is mounted.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d19/jonyb1/04CTSV/DSC_8146.jpg

If this doesn't turn out right, I'm gonna pull the eq and relocate the volume and sub control to the dash, then mount the chassis and remaining buttons in the trunk and use a pocket in it's place.

The floor speakers look like they are in the way on the drivers side, or is this just a bad angle for a pic that makes it look unsafe...?

Kinda what i thought. Did u get resin on your clutch pedal?
Looks very nice tho.

Resin on clutch pedal, yes. It's a PITA working on that one in the car when you're left-handed. I'll be cleaning all of that off sometime soon.

The drivers side picture makes it look bad. When I press the clutch in, the bottom of my foot is towards the right. When I was angling the speaker and finding the best position for it, I'd press the clutch and e-brake to make sure they'd both clear. The e-brake is gonna take some getting used to, but that's why I recessed the speaker so much so the woofer and grill wouldn't take so much abuse.

those pillars and kicks look great. I'm excited to see another system in the works. I wish I had time to work on the one for my f350.

Got it all playing last night. Made a temporary amp rack to get by until I can finish it up. Got a boat to do and several remote starts coming up. The amps changed. I'm now using an SS3 for subs, and 2 SS4's for the mids/highs. Those amps are sweet. There's no turn-on thump, zero motor noise, and the midbass up front is almost enough to go without subs. The hand-built DD crossovers came in the other day, those are pretty slick. Also wrapped the speaker grill in the door with grill cloth. I'll have a few pics later today.

Finally got the box built last week.... Midbass is phenomenal.. Hit's a few low notes, but not really liking it with the port huffing.

I like your style for building enclosures! Won't those corner gussets alter the tuning since they change the port volume as they wrap around?

I've been out of this for a while but it looks like you've got a ported enclosure firing into another ported enclosure... were you shooting for some type of bandpass configuration?

btw- has anyone ever noticed that JonyB's dinosaur sig looks like it has a cameltoe?

I believe that's a 5th order bandpass JM.... Designed by http://www.pwkdesigns.com/

The car had a 10" OEM free-air sub on the rear deck. That's removed, and the 6" port on top of the box fires through the rear deck where the OEM sub was.

I figured it was some 'N'th order BP box, but never built many of those personally.

PWK is one hell of box builder!..I've been reading his stuff for over an hour now! WOW!

Gawd I hate that show.... Remy is good (what they show of him). I've heard most of their installs are pretty shady though. Another forum I'm on has a couple members that have worked on vehicles that they've done before.

yeah thats what I was referring to actually, I remember you posting up some pics of their shotty work. I think Remy would be better off going out on his own because i don't see how anyone is motivated to work for castro other then strictly for the money. IF your not some athlete or rapper they prolly just throw some .... together in an hour and charge the same price and it never gets on the tv show.
